Dollhouse Scalloped Mirror DIY

I have made this little scalloped mirror twice, and I love it every time. It is inspired by this real-life version, but this mini mirror is made from mat board paper, basswood strips, and plastic mirror sheets.

Trace the scallop base onto your mat board paper. Cut it out with a very sharp X-acto knife (a good time to start with a fresh blade!) This will take some time, but go slow and be careful! At the end, you can smooth up any edges with sand paper, but careful cuts will get you the farthest.

Cut your wood strips at a 45 degree angle using miter cut shears. Place them on top of the mat board base you just cut out, arranging them into a frame. Put a dab of glue on each inner corner to attach the wood pieces to each other. At this point, don’t glue it down to the paper base yet, but I like to line everything up to make sure the sizing is right.

After the frame glue has dried, carefully place your frame on top of the mirror styrene sheet, and trace the inside of the frame. Score the mirror outline with the X-acto knife, then bend and break the plastic to get a clean cut. Make sure your mirror fits into the frame. To be honest, it took me a few tries to get it perfect!

Center the wood frame on top of the scallop base and glue it in place. Don’t put your mirror in quite yet.

Paint the entire paper and wood assembly. I have experimented with spray paint and craft paint. Both are great options, although the spray paint will give a smoother, glossier finish. Either paint will take a few coats to get inside all the nooks and crannies.

Once your paint is dry, glue your plastic mirror inside the frame.

Mini Tip - Use museum putty to attach mirrors or other wall art to your dollhouse walls. This is non-permanent but strong!

There you have it. To complete your dollhouse bathroom, make a wooden sink vanity to go alongside your mirror.
