Ikea Flisat Dollhouse: Wallpaper

Surprise, surprise. I’m starting on a new dollhouse this month. A certain 3-almost-4 year old has been asking me to make her a dollhouse after watching me work on my other one. I’m starting with the Ikea Flisat Dollhouse and doing some basic upgrades. First up— wallpaper!

Ikea Dollhouse Wallpaper Downloads & Tutorial

The easiest way to take your Ikea dollhouse to the next level is to cover the walls with cute paper! I have seen many creators use wrapping paper and scrapbook paper, which works great. I was itching to get started on this project one evening about 7pm. And since reluctant to leave my house to purchase new supplies, I created some quick wallpaper patterns myself for the dollhouse that very evening.

Materials

  • Legal Size Paper - I found that posterboard cut down to size works great and gives the wall some texture. I’m fairly sure I bought a pack of pre-cut posterboard at Dollar Tree.
You can also buy precut poster board in 8.5 x 14 here: Office Depot Link

  • X-Acto knife or scissors

  • Craft Glue - I like Tacky Glue

  • Home printer

Free Wallpaper Downloads

I used Rawpixel and Canva to create my own patterns. More on that below. In the meantime, I have created pre-made wallpaper patterns for you to download and use for free. There’s 3 floral patterns, 2 stripes, and 2 plaids. They all coordinate well!

You can download PNGs above or use the PDF downloads below:

Floral Wallpaper 1 - Pink and Navy Flowers

Floral Wallpaper 2 - Mixed Floral Pattern

Floral Wallpaper 3 - Green and Pink Flowers

Plaid Wallpaper 4 - Teal Plaid

Plaid Wallpaper 5 - Yellow Plaid

Stripe Wallpaper 6 - Pink Stripe

Stripe Wallpaper 7 - Navy Stripe

Wallpaper Printing & Install Instructions

Once you download the PNG or PDF file, simply load up your legal size paper inside your home printer. I opt to use legal size paper because of the width of the dollhouse. To cover the entire second floor wall, you can hide the paper seam behind the vertical wall. And a 14” paper will be plenty of length to cover either of the downstairs rooms with one sheet each.

You can “print to fit” or “print to fill” the paper. It won’t alter the scale drastically, and you may want some extra pattern margin while you’re cutting.

Cut out your paper to fit the rooms you wish to cover. Use a little bit of tacky glue alongside each side and glue in place. That’s it!

Creating Your Own Wallpaper

It’s fairly easy to create your own wallpaper with free online programs. I found these two patterns on Rawpixel: Orange Flowers and Yellow Plaid. Download the highest file size JPG.

Use Canva to Create Wallpaper Files

Canva is a great online tool for quick projects like this. Start by creating a “Desktop Background” project with a blank board. This should be about 1920 x 1080, which fits nicely on a 8.5 x 14 sheet of paper. Upload your pattern from Rawpixel onto the blank canvas. Duplicate it around to fill the canvas. I chose patterns that tiled well and did not have obvious seams.

Click “Share” > “Download” in order to save the PDF or PNG pattern file and print as instructed above.

This is just the first step in the Ikea Dollhouse upgrade plan! I have plenty of future tutorials planned to take this basic dollhouse and turn it into something to be cherished for years.
