Modern Moody Dollhouse Living Room Reveal

If you’ve been following me on social media, you should have seen my latest project coming together slowly over the last 9 months. I built a small two-room dollhouse completely from scratch and completely for fun. Since I completed the main structure and interior finishes in September, I have worked on furnishings for the largest room. Many of the items I made involved new-to-me techniques, so unfortunately, I only made two tutorials along the way. But this post is a showcase of my work over the last several months, even if I did not document every step. Enjoy!

The Two-Room Dollhouse Structure

The dollhouse base is made from 1/2 foam core boards. I made all the windows myself with strip wood and scaled trim pieces. The floor is a mix of wood veneer for the smaller, left room (future kitchen), and caning reed in the right room (living room). I also made the wood beams out of strip wood, then weathered and stained before installing. A true blank slate built from nothing!

Dollhouse DIY Furniture Process

I did not document every step of the furniture builds. But my makes included:

The Finished Living Room

My primary goal in this project was to trick viewers into thinking it was a real living room! I have heard from a handful of commenters that I have duped a few people! I’m still honing my photography skills, which is part of the challenge in realism. But overall, I am excited to share this project and keep challenging myself with not only new skills, but new interior design styles as well!

Be sure to check out my Instagram or Tiktok feeds for a couple of videos with behind the scenes processes and progress photos! I’ll be tackling the kitchen on the other side of the house soon, so be sure to follow along!
